Getting Started
Quickstart Guide
This guide walks you through the core workflow: creating a product, adding a supplier, generating a Digital Product Passport, and publishing a QR label — all in under 10 minutes.
Prerequisites
An active PassportBox account (Starter plan or above)
At least one product SKU ready (name, category, description)
Supplier contact details (name, location, email)
Core Workflow
- 1
Add a Supplier
Before creating a product, add the supplier who manufactures or sources it. Suppliers are required when creating passports.
- 1.Go to Suppliers in the left sidebar.
- 2.Click "Add Supplier".
- 3.Enter the supplier name, location (country), contact email, and any certifications.
- 4.Click "Save". The supplier status will be set to Pending until verified.
- 2
Create a Product
Products are the SKUs that passports are attached to. Each product maps to one or more physical items you sell.
- 1.Go to Products in the sidebar.
- 2.Click "New Product".
- 3.Enter the product name, SKU, category, and description.
- 4.Optionally attach a supplier, materials list, and sustainability fields.
- 5.Click "Create Product".
- 3
Generate a Digital Passport
A passport links product data to a publicly accessible compliance record. Once published, it gets a GS1 Digital Link and a QR code.
- 1.Go to Passports in the sidebar.
- 2.Click "New Passport".
- 3.Select the product you created in Step 2.
- 4.Fill in the required fields: passport name, materials, compliance data.
- 5.Click "Save as Draft". Review, then click "Publish".
- 6.After publishing, a GS1 Digital Link and public URL are generated.
- 4
Generate a QR Label
Labels turn passport data into print-ready QR codes for physical product labels, hangtags, and packaging.
- 1.Go to Labels in the sidebar.
- 2.Select your published passport from the dropdown.
- 3.Choose a label format: Roll (continuous) or Sheet.
- 4.Click "Generate Label".
- 5.Download the PNG or PDF and send it to your print vendor.
- 5
Verify with Scan & Lookup
Use Scan & Lookup to confirm your passport is live and returning the correct compliance data.
- 1.Go to Scan & Lookup in the sidebar.
- 2.Paste the GS1 Digital Link from your published passport (or scan the QR code with your phone camera).
- 3.Click "Scan".
- 4.Confirm the passport details, materials, and compliance scores are correct.
