Can I connect more than one Shopify store?

Not at this time. Each PassportBox organization supports one connected Shopify store. If you need multiple stores, create a separate organization for each.

Are passports automatically published after importing from Shopify?

No. Imported products generate draft passports only. You review each passport in the Passports section and publish it manually when it is ready.

Does PassportBox sync inventory levels or product prices from Shopify?

No. The integration syncs product identity data (title, description, SKU) for import and writes compliance data back to Shopify metafields. Inventory and pricing are managed exclusively in Shopify.

What happens if I uninstall the PassportBox app from Shopify?

PassportBox receives an app/uninstalled webhook, disconnects the store, and deactivates the recurring billing charge. Your passports and product data remain in PassportBox.

Shopify integration

PassportBox connects to Shopify so you can import your product catalogue and sync Digital Product Passport data back to Shopify as metafields — no CSV work required.

Connecting your store

There are two ways to connect a Shopify store, depending on how you signed up.

Option A — Shopify App Store

Install PassportBox from the Shopify App Store. The install flow creates a new PassportBox organization and admin account in one click. Billing is handled through Shopify (recurring charge).

Option B — Dashboard OAuth

If you already have a PassportBox account, go to Settings → Integrations → Connect Shopify and complete the OAuth flow. Billing is handled through Stripe on your existing plan.

Importing products

After connecting, use the import tool to pull products from your Shopify store into PassportBox.

1Go to Products → Import in the PassportBox dashboard.
2Select your connected Shopify store.
3Choose to import all products or filter to a specific subset.
4Click Import. PassportBox creates a product record for each Shopify product and bootstraps a draft passport from the available data (title, description, SKU).
5Review the created draft passports in the Passports section and complete any missing compliance fields.

Syncing passport data to Shopify

Once a passport is published, you can sync its compliance data back to your Shopify products as metafields. This makes the passport data available in Shopify for use in themes, apps, and storefront APIs.

Open the published passport in PassportBox.
Click Sync to Shopify.
PassportBox writes the compliance data (materials, sustainability attributes, public passport URL) to the linked Shopify product metafields.
The sync is one-way: PassportBox → Shopify. Edits in Shopify do not update the passport.

Billing

App Store installs

Billing is processed entirely through Shopify as a recurring app charge. You manage and cancel the subscription from your Shopify admin under Apps → Manage apps.

Direct (Stripe) accounts

If you connected Shopify to an existing PassportBox account, your plan is billed through Stripe. Starter is $79.99 / month; Growth is $199 / month. Manage billing under Settings → Billing.

Webhooks

PassportBox registers the following Shopify webhooks automatically when you connect a store. All webhooks are HMAC-verified before processing.

Current limitations

One store per organization. Each PassportBox organization can connect a single Shopify store. Multi-store support is not available.
Manual publish required. Importing from Shopify creates draft passports only. You must review and publish each passport yourself — passports are never auto-published.
No inventory or price sync. PassportBox does not read or write inventory levels, stock quantities, or product prices. Those remain managed entirely in Shopify.

Troubleshooting

If your store fails to connect, check that your Shopify account has the Apps and channels permission and that pop-ups are not blocked during the OAuth flow. Webhook delivery failures are retried by Shopify automatically.
